Upper Atmosphere Modelling

Space weather can have a negative impact on a range of systems, from GPS positioning to satellite drag. Mitigation by ionospheric and thermospheric modelling is one approach to improving system performance. At SERENE we are developing the Advanced European electron density (Ne) Assimilation System (AENeAS) and multi-model ensembles (MMEs) to provide excellent nowcasts as well as accurate and actionable forecasts. At SERENE e-Science is crucial for many things we do, we have our own computer cluster, run intense simulations and have investigated the building of an e-infrastructure to support access to the wide range of data.
